After School Class Teachers

San Francisco Schoolhouse, a non-profit K-8 school, is looking for interesting and passionate people who love spending time with elementary-aged children to join our new and growing school community. Specifically, we are looking for people with unique skills or hobbies to teach an enrichment class in our after-school program.

Perhaps you're an avid juggler looking to share your passion, a chemistry student at SFSU who loves teaching kids about interesting explosions, or an amateur batik artist wanting to share the art. Perhaps you're retired and looking for some part time work with children, or you're a professional cricket player. Maybe you just really love parkour.

Whatever it may be, we'd love to have you join our learning community!

The Schoolhouse is a new, independent school located in the Richmond District of San Francisco. Our intentionally small size, experienced and passionate teachers, experiential curriculum, and active parent participation provide a unique opportunity for families seeking a community-minded progressive education that challenges and supports their child. Founded in 2011 by two teachers and two parents with two students, the Schoolhouse will enroll 70 students in the fall. Please explore our website to find out more about our beliefs and vision.

Our after-school program runs from 2:00-6:00pm, Monday through Friday; most enrichment classes run for one hour, once a week. Past classes have included Puppetry, Music, Irish Dance, and Brain Twisters. We're especially interested in STEM enrichment classes right now, so bonus points for anything science or technology related.

We're always looking for talented educators from our community who are interested in substitute teaching. Several of our enrichment teachers are also substitute teachers — this is a great way to become part of our growing school.

To apply, send an email to hr@sfschoolhouse.org with a resume, the names and contact information for three references, and a cover letter which includes the following elements: who you are, why you are a good fit for the Schoolhouse, and what class you would like to pitch to us.

Requirements:

  • a sense of humor, creativity, patience and warmth; connects easily with children, teachers and parents
  • the ability to envision, plan, and implement engaging, hands on, creative weekly lessons
  • prior experience working with elementary age children
  • willingness to undergo a background and TB test

Preferred:

  • experience with K-8 progressive and/or constructivist education
  • resident of the Richmond District of San Francisco
