Daily Schedule

We’ve designed a school schedule to fit the rhythms of childhood, as well as the lives of working parents. Schoolhouse is open from 8:00am-6:00pm, covering a typical working day for parents. And school starts between 8:30am and 9:00am, a more productive and engaged time for students. Our regular school hours are:

  • Open 8:00 am-6:00 pm

  • Grade K program: 9:00 am-2:00 pm

  • Grades 1-3 program: 9:00 am-3:00 pm, with early dismissal at 2:00 pm on Wednesdays for faculty meetings

  • Grades 4 & 5 program: 9:00 am-3:15 pm, with early dismissal at 2:15 pm on Wednesdays for faculty meetings

  • Grades 6-8 program: 8:30 am-3:30 pm, with early dismissal at 2:15 pm on Wednesdays for faculty meetings

Daily Outdoor Play
Every day, the entire school spends time outside on the campus play yard or walks to either Alamo Square Park or Hayes Valley Playground to play and enjoy nature. At the park, children:

  • climb trees

  • look for urban wildlife

  • build forts and secret spaces with sticks, leaves, and moss

  • learn and play group games

  • play with a variety of equipment, including frisbees, soccer balls, stilts, etc.

  • lead their own play in most cases, and always have a choice in how and where they play as long it is safe, fair, and inclusive of others

  • learn conflict-resolution skills

Wednesday All-School Community Circle
Every Wednesday afternoon the children and teachers gather for cross-grades school circles, organized by one of our middle school leadership elective groups. A mix of students from the K-8 classes greet each other, sing together, celebrate birthdays, play games, and make announcements. Most importantly, this is a chance to check in, rub shoulders, and engage as members of a community.

Extended Day: Morning and After-School Care
Our morning program is available from 8:00 am until school starts, Monday-Friday, for $12.50/hour.

Our after-school program is available from class dismissal to 6:00 pm, Monday-Friday, for $12.50/hour.

Enrichment classes, taught by Schoolhouse teachers and community members, are also available during the extended day program.

See more information on the program for K-5 here, and for Middle School here.
