Board of Trustees
As an independent school, the San Francisco Schoolhouse is governed by a Board of Trustees. The Board’s primary responsibilities are to ensure the school’s financial health, to work with the Head of School in developing a long-term strategic plan for the school, and to support and evaluate the Head of School’s development and performance. The Board approves the annual operating budget, takes a leadership role in fundraising, and participates in planning and maintaining the school’s physical plant.
Caroline Nassif, co-Chair and President, is an architect with over 20 years of experience in the San Francisco Bay Area who believes great design is the product of curiosity, empathy, and innovation. Her career spans student and multi-family affordable housing, high-end single family residential, restaurants, and commercial tenant improvement projects. Caroline is a licensed Architect in the State of California, a member of the National Organization of Minority Architects, a veteran of several nonprofit boards (Asian Neighborhood Design, Insight Housing), and a current board member at the American Conservatory Theater. Caroline was born in Cairo, Egypt, emigrated to the US as a young child, and has lived in the Bay Area since 2004. Caroline and her husband were thrilled to discover SF Schoolhouse after a long search for a micro-school with a tight-knit community where the joy of learning through a project-based curriculum was the focus. Their daughter started attending Schoolhouse in 2023, and Caroline is honored to serve on the board alongside the leadership and staff of this incredible school community.
Robert Innes, co-Chair and President, is a long-time lawyer for San Francisco financial services firm Charles Schwab. The father of four children and husband of a former SFUSD teacher, he believes that innovation in education is the key to keeping San Francisco a strong, vibrant and energetic place. He is grateful for the difference that Schoolhouse has made for his family and a firm believer in the power of Schoolhouse to do the same thing for many other families. Robert is a graduate of Cornell University and the University of Chicago and has two children at the Schoolhouse.

Courtney Masterson, Board Member, is a faculty member at University of San Francisco's School of Management. Her research and teaching focus on improving employees' well-being. As a teacher, lifelong learner, and parent, she believes in the power of experiential learning for students of all ages. She is a graduate of Washington University in St. Louis, DePaul University, and University of Illinois at Chicago. Courtney, her partner, and son moved to San Francisco from Chicago, a city they hold close to their hearts. They enjoy exploring San Francisco, supporting local businesses, and watching or playing baseball. Her son attends the Schoolhouse.
John Jordan, Board Member, can usually be spotted on his cargo bike riding his two children to and from school. His older son is a student at Schoolhouse. John and his wife were initially attracted to the Schoolhouse community because it emphasizes social and emotional intelligence as much as academic learning. He is a believer in the value of cultivating a child’s sense of agency, curiosity, and passion through experiential learning. One of his greatest joys as a parent is being present in “a-ha!” moments as his children discover a new detail of their environment and make connections between things that he takes for granted. John is a principal at Ridge Capital Investors, and his career as a real estate investor has spanned three decades. He holds a BA in Economics from Tufts University and an MBA from Haas School of Business, University of California Berkeley.
Myrtle Rego, Board Member, has over 15 years of global experience consulting with both start-up and mature companies on business and organization transformations. Born and raised in Bangalore, India, Myrtle studied Engineering in India, and pursued a Masters in HR at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, and Business Management at the Foster School of Business, UW. She deeply values education and its power to empower individuals, challenge norms, and create social and economic change. She has worked with non-profits in India, focusing on equity in education for children and supporting parents and home environments. Myrtle’s family was drawn to the intentional small community at Schoolhouse where parents are an integral part of the child’s journey. She finds it an honor to serve on the board and help nurture the experience of our children as they grow to be global citizens and leaders who are prepared for the future.
Nilika Singhal, Board Member, is a native Texan but has lived in her now-home of San Francisco with her husband since 2009. She is a physician and medical educator at UCSF and believes that fostering an inquiring habit of mind, working in collaborative teams, developing skills in critical self reflection with individualized mentorship will improve the quality of medical education. Similarly as a parent, her hope is that children learn to appreciate and value the individual strengths in themselves and their peers. Nilika is a graduate from Texas A&M University and the McGovern Health Science Center at Houston. She and her husband have three children who all attend Schoolhouse.
Dan Bush, Board Member, and his family are delighted to be a part of this vibrant school community, with Emma in 4th grade, Margot in 1st, and his youngest, Charlotte, eagerly awaiting her turn. What truly resonates with Dan is Schoolhouse's unique ability to foster independence and agency in children, allowing them to explore and grow authentically. He's inspired to see the incredible support from teachers and the wider community, all working together to guide each child in becoming their very best. Dan is committed to helping cultivate this nurturing environment for all. Personally, Dan is proud to be a native Chicagoan, a marathon runner, and an avid pizza baker. He has been in San Francisco for over a decade, and professionally works in global strategy and insights for Ophthalmology at Genentech.
Holden Hardcastle, Board Member, is a multidisciplinary storyteller, creative director, and strategist with over 20 years of experience leading award-winning campaigns for agencies, startups, and mission-driven organizations. He produces and edits multiple podcasts that focus on environmental news, ocean stories, and design. He supports climate action locally through fundraising and advocacy with grassroots organizations. A lifelong learner, Holden was drawn to the Schoolhouse community for its joyful emphasis on curiosity, compassion, and collaboration. He lives in San Francisco with his family, where they can often be found cruising the Sunset Dunes, making s’mores, or exploring and cleaning the coast.
Roy Auty, is the Head of Portfolio Management at Revolution Medicines, an oncology drug company based in Redwood City. Like his wife (Alyse Han), Roy is the offspring of two university professors. The educational implications of this heritage have been solely focused on their 5th grade son (Thomas)! Like Thomas, Roy moved around a lot as a kid, and ended up experiencing five different schools across four different school systems in two different countries. After completing secondary school in the UK, Roy studied biochemistry at Oxford University and completed a PhD in Biological Chemistry and Molecular Pharmacology at Harvard Medical School before moving to the Bay Area for the first time for a post-doc at UC, Berkeley. He worked as a consultant for the Boston Consulting Group before taking on a variety of portfolio and corporate strategy positions within the Pharmaceutical industry, briefly interrupted by a stint at Stanford University as the Executive Director for the Future of Life Sciences. In his spare time, Roy enjoys swimming, hiking, baking, reading (science fiction!) and niche water sports, including competitive lifesaving, synchronized swimming, and dragonboating.
Katie Lynn Joyce is a partner at the law firm Keker, Van Nest & Peters, where she focuses on intellectual property litigation. Prior to becoming a lawyer, she was a kindergarten teacher at an independent school in San Francisco. She and her family are delighted to be members of the Schoolhouse community, which has been an experience filled with warmth, creativity, and joy.
Amy Kolhbrenner, was born and raised in San Francisco and is proud to serve the community she has always called home. She is a board-certified general surgeon affiliated with CPMC and has spent more than a decade in private practice alongside her father, where she has built a career rooted in compassionate care and collaboration. Amy is passionate about education and believes that fostering curiosity, critical thinking, resilience, and a lifelong love of learning is essential to preparing children for success. She and her husband, who is also a physician, are raising their two children in San Francisco and have embraced Schoolhouse’s mission whole heartedly as they have watched their children thrive in the school community. Their family is committed to giving back through both medicine and education, and Amy is eager to contribute her leadership, collaborative approach, and dedication to strengthening the Schoolhouse community for current and future families.
​​Erin Cooney, Emeritus, earned her B.S. at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and spent 19 years working in accounting, finance and sales operations for public accounting, start-ups and software companies in the Bay Area. With the birth of her third child she gave up the corporate world. At the same time her oldest child embarked on kindergarten. After looking at all the school options, she became passionate not only about a true progressive education but about a school where parents are an integral part of the journey along with their children. With that in mind, she teamed up with Rebecca Dake, another founding parent, to start the San Francisco Schoolhouse.
