DEIB

Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging

At San Francisco Schoolhouse, we believe socio-emotional learning and diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB) are inextricably linked. These concepts intersect, creating a foundation where we infuse DEIB throughout all aspects of our program, including developing empathy, strengthening communication skills, embracing cultural competency, and practicing perspective taking. We understand these aspects are integral to a child’s holistic development. At Schoolhouse, we are dedicated to helping students accept and celebrate their own uniqueness and that of their peers, cultivating an inclusive and supportive community where differences are not just acknowledged, but valued.

OUR COMMITMENTS

We acknowledge that the school is located on the unceded ancestral lands of the Ramaytush Ohlone people.

We maintain the founding principle to keep tuition as reasonable as possible, thereby making a high-quality progressive education as accessible as possible.

We enrich our community by welcoming a diversity of races, ethnicities, genders, gender identities, sexual orientations, religions, abilities, and national origins.

We ensure social emotional learning (SEL) is a foundational part of the school’s curriculum, K-8.

We infuse DEIB throughout all aspects of the program and community life.

  • Provide real-life, project-based learning, and student leadership opportunities teaching students how to stand up for what is right in order to make the world a better place for all.

  • Teach students to examine biases, within themselves and in the world around them, so they may actively push against them.

  • Strengthen collaboration skills, learning to work together with students different from one’s self.

  • Educate students about perspective taking, from how history is told and retold, to voices in literature, to daily personal interactions with peers.

  • Support students and community members of all genders via specific policies, such as providing only gender-neutral bathrooms for all students.
